Hello! I am a 24-year-old college student currently enveloped in the explorations of nosurf. This is a technological age: you almost cannot avoid the wave of computer usage. The once stubborn “It’s too complicated to use the computer!” baby boomers have to adapt, and sometimes entire classes hinge on the fact that they’re online. While Internet usage can be used as good (not just like as with the Ice Bucket Challenge not only simulating some of the symptoms of ALS, but directly challenging high-profile YouTubers to donate to ALS charities, but stuff like fitness, educational YouTubers, specifically used to enrich people’s lives), I’m sure you can all relate to shit like going down YouTube rabbit holes for 6 hours, reading the comments for far too long, responding to toxic comments for the sake of arguing, refreshing the page repeatedly to find new content, and so on.
What I’ve noticed by browsing the nosurf subreddit is that the key to solving this problem is to replace surfing time with hobbies that typically don’t involve the computer: Shit like turning off wifi in a certain schedule, website blockers or changing into a dumbphone are only bandage solutions. These are explorations (and things I do) in order to solve the inherent solution.
